About the Author
Charles M. Schulz was born November 25, 1922, in Minneapolis. His destiny was foreshadowed when an uncle gave him, at the age of two days, the nickname Sparky (after the racehorse Spark Plug in the newspaper strip Barney Google).In his senior year in high school, his mother noticed an ad in a local newspaper for a correspondence school, Federal Schools (later called Art Instruction Schools). Schulz passed the talent test, completed the course, and began trying, unsuccessfully, to sell gag cartoons to magazines. (His first published drawing was of his dog, Spike, and appeared in a 1937 Ripley's Believe It or Not! installment.) Between 1948 and 1950, he succeeded in selling 17 cartoons to the Saturday Evening Post―as well as, to the local St. Paul Pioneer Press, a weekly comic feature called Li'l Folks. It was run in the women's section and paid $10 a week. After writing and drawing the feature for two years, Schulz asked for a better location in the paper or for daily exposure, as well as a raise. When he was turned down on all three counts, he quit.He started submitting strips to the newspaper syndicates. In the spring of 1950, he received a letter from the United Feature Syndicate, announcing their interest in his submission, Li'l Folks. Schulz boarded a train in June for New York City; more interested in doing a strip than a panel, he also brought along the first installments of what would become Peanuts―and that was what sold. (The title, which Schulz loathed to his dying day, was imposed by the syndicate.) The first Peanuts daily appeared October 2, 1950; the first Sunday, January 6, 1952.Diagnosed with cancer, Schulz retired from Peanuts at the end of 1999. He died on February 13, 2000, the day before Valentine's Day―and the day before his last strip was published―having completed 17,897 daily and Sunday strips, each and every one fully written, drawn, and lettered entirely by his own hand―an unmatched achievement in comics.

Paul Feig was born in Michigan. He co-created the seminal television series Freaks and Geeks, directed the blockbuster hit Bridesmaids in 2011, and has been nominated for five Emmy awards. Feig produced the upcoming Peanuts animated film and is helming the new Ghostbusters movie.

RiffTrax is the successful comedy trio of Bill Corbett, Kevin Murphy, and Michael J. Nelson. All three were writers and stars of the TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000, and have taken their unique blend of irreverent humor and “riffing” on movies to create an influential and devoted online audience. As Usual, These Are Great Books!

I just received this set yesterday and it is just as sturdy as the others. I can't believe my collection is almost complete. This is a great collection for all fans of the strip and I, for one, am proud to own them. Beautifully done as always.

Now for the good part. Fans of the collection have been curious as to what is going to happen with the final volume. Will it have a case or not? A few months ago I contacted the publishers about this and was told that there will indeed be a 26th volume and final box set next year. However, there has been no official word yet from the publishers so this morning I contacted again concerning the same matter and was told once again that there will be a 26th volume. This time I was given a bit more info as well. Here was there response:

Due to collector demands we're publishing a 26th volume of material yet to be determined and there will be a boxed set for 25 & 26 at the end of 2016.

Our pr dept. gave me this bit of information that will be apart of promotion starting next year. "Complete Peanuts fans: although the strip has been collected, we have one more volume up our sleeve for next fall, collecting a treasure trove of Schulz rarities, from his initial Peanuts pitch packet, to several comic book stories, advertising art, two major, never-before published interviews, and many other surprises!"

Superb - But we Need a Slipcase for the Next and Final Volume Too!

Another superb edition, in a wonderful slipcase! Schulz was able to maintain his quality right through his later years.

I am certain that there are many collectors who have purchased every one of the slipcased editions and display them proudly. But the announcement that Fantagraphics will publish the final book (Volume 25) in this series without a slipcase leaves me greatly disappointed. Will it just be an appendage on your shelf of 12 slipcased sets? This is hard to believe. I hope Fantagraphics will provide a slipcase for the final volume. They are a company for collectors, after all. I will write to them, and I hope others will as well.

If you are a long time Peanuts fan like I am you should love this collection. It is also beneficial to wait and purchase the gift boxes with four years at a time. My purchase was for the purpose of it being a gift for another Peanuts fan.

About the Author
Charles William Kegley is a past president of the International Studies Association, and has been serving the past two decades on the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. Kegley holds the title of Pearce Distinguished Professor of International Relations Emeritus at the University of South Carolina. A graduate of the American University (B.A.) and Syracuse University (Ph.D.) and a Pew Faculty Fellow at Harvard University, Kegley previously served on the faculty at Georgetown University, and has held visiting professorships at the University of Texas, Rutgers University, the People's University of China, and the Institute Universitaire de Hautes Études Internationales Et du Developpement in Geneva Switzerland. He is also a recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award of the Foreign Policy Analysis Section of the International Studies Association. A founding partner of Kegley International, Inc. (a publishing, research, and consulting foundation), Kegley has authored more than 50 scholarly books and over 100 articles in journals.

Shannon Lindsey Blanton is a professor in the Department of Government at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she is also the inaugural dean of the UAB Honors College. She is a past vice provost for undergraduate programs, department chair and undergraduate coordinator, and has served nationally as a facilitator for leadership development in higher education. A graduate of Georgia College (B.A.), the University of Georgia (M.A.), and the University of South Carolina (Ph.D.), she has received numerous research awards and professional recognitions. She has served on a number of editorial boards, including those for four of the discipline's foremost journals: International Studies Quarterly, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Interactions, and International Studies Perspectives. She has published articles on U.S. foreign policy decision-making, with a focus on the determinants and consequences of U.S. arms transfers and foreign aid. For VLSI the foundation was provided by semiconductor device techn- ogy, circuit design, and electronic testing. In a computer engineering curriculum, therefore, it is necessary that foundations should be taught before applications. The field of VLSI has expanded to systems-on-a-chip, which include digital, memory, and mixed-signalsubsystems. To our knowledge this is the first textbook to cover all three types of electronic circuits. We have written this textbook for an undergraduate “foundations” course on electronic testing. Obviously, it is too voluminous for a one-semester course and a teacher will have to select from the topics. We did not restrict such freedom because the selection may depend upon the individual expertise and interests. Besides, there is merit in having a larger book that will retain its usefulness for the owner even after the completion of the course. With equal tenacity, we address the needs of three other groups of readers.

I loved the clarity of the book. It's very easy to follow. Agreed that it tries to cover a lot of topics and naturally will not go very deep into everything that you want. But definitely a great book to pick up and get all of your fundamentals and more strengthened.

Not a good book for ATE

It seems to me it is just a summary of work done by others in
the ATE field over the years. The explanations of how a device
fault is detected are not clear in most of the cases presented
in the book. The book emphasizes too much on fault
modeling but not enough on test applications and techniques.
Certainly not a good text book for students nor it
is a good book for ATE engineers. However, if you are looking
for some quick reference, this book is a good place to start
because it contains brief summaries of other people's work.

Excellent textbook for VLSI testing.

This book is, as far as I know, the most comprehensive texbook on VLSI testing available at the moment. It is based on current trends and techniques in the field. After all, the authors are pioneers in this area. A worthy successor to Abramovici's earlier textbook, which, I think is beginning to look increasingly archaic. As a guy who's taken a course in testing by the authors (we were the guinea pigs for the book, actually)and is currently working in the VLSI testing area, I strongly recommend it to anyone looking to build strong testing fundamentals.

This is a strange package...

I pre-ordered this book some months back with an expectation that a book calling itself "Bebop Guitar: Basic Theory and Practice for Jazz Guitar in the Style of Charlie Parker" would, of all things, discuss the practice of guitar playing. I am an intermediate level player with a few chords scales and riffs under his belt--no beginner by any means, but not a pro either.

I am not exaggerating when I say there is not one mention of the guitar as the instrument in question in any of the main chapters. The author does explain early on that the examples have been written in the key of G to make things easier for guitarists, but that's it! No tab, no fingerings in the notation. No position suggestions. Nothing. It's all theoretical explication of the melodic devices used by Parker in his solos. Not a bad thing in itself, but I don't see any reason for it to be a book targeted for guitarists. It could very easilty have been packaged as a book for oboists or kazooists without changing one word of the text.

Weirder still is the 64 track CD. Instead of the examples being played on a guitar, the least you would expect from a book shouting "Guitar" in very large, Art-Deco lettering on its front cover, you get examples recorded from a midi. But it's not even a midi using a guitar voice. It's a saxophone voice (and not a particularly good one at that!) If you just want to hear how the phrases sound, it works okay for that, but I should think that the target audience for this book would really haved liked to be convinced that these phrases can be made to sound good on a guitar. That would seem to be the point of a book entitled "Bebop Guitar."

I think my biggest complaint is the lack of any references to actual solos. It might say "He plays this line over a dominant." But there are no references to the names of the solos or recorded performances from which the lines were taken. At the very least a couple of representative solo transcriptions (with guitar tab or fingerings!) would have been nice too. By contrast, Stan Ayeroff's "Swing To Bop" collection of Charlie Christian transcriptions has all of those things--theoretical analysis of the melodic lines AND performance charts. Even if Parker's saxophone fingerings cannot be reproduced on the guitar, some recommendations on which positions to use under which conditions would have been helpful.

Also, the author has very odd credentials for someone taking on the task of explaining an alto saxopone player's style to guitarists. Most of his writing has either been for renaissance and baroque plucked instruments, or for banjo and flatpicked guitar. He has written one other jazz book, Charlie Christian Chord Shapes, and while his classical and early music background certainly qualify him to speak to the melodic theory involved, that's not necessarily what one expects to be the thrust of a book entitled Bebop Guitar. That doesn't mean his analyis isn't valid. It has just been mispresented and packaged badly by the publisher. This may not have been the author's fault, but someone clearly dropped the ball on this one.

Obtain a library or advance copy first before buying. It might be something worth keeping on the shelf for future reference, but you won't be playing KoKo anytime soon on the strength of this book alone.

Not for guitarists only

The only thing guitar-related about this book is the picture of the guitar on the cover. Other than that, and a footnote on page 5 justifying the use of the key of G major, the book never mentions the guitar. Zip, zilch, nada. None of the notated examples contain fingerings, TABs, hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, slurs, or anything else to do with guitar. If you are a guitarist, and you want to use this book, you have to be an excellent sight-reader, and you have to be willing to experiment extensively with fingerings. On a positive note, this book is an excellent resource for any instrumentalist who can read treble-clef and would like to understand the details of the bebop style. This books won't teach you how to improvise, but if you are already a good improvisor, you will learn how to sound more like Charlie Parker.
